Hi, My friend sent me an excel sheet. I opened it up and get There are one or more Circular References. I see he sent me the sheet from a 97-2003 .xlsx. I am on a 2016 so i re saved is and it went away, but now i opened it again and it came back. Is there anything else i can do to stop this from happening? thank you

Thanks I got it. The fix was under File , options Formulas then Enable iterative calculation had to be checked.
Unless you are doing something that requires an iterative formula eg a goal seek model, Enabling iterative calculations is a really bad idea.
You really need to be tracking down and fixing the circular references.

A circular reference is indicative of an error in the formula and enabling iterative calculations is just hiding the errors in the formulas.

There is a macro on ExcelTips that may also help identify the circular references
