Circular references/iterations

Hi folks,

I've a worksheet where I want to alter a variable, which will subsequently alter a value which I want to get as close numerically to another value. The value of the variable which satisfies this is of interest to me (I hope I've explained that clearly!). I know the solver will do this, but is there a way to do this using circular references or something? The Excel help wasn't much help to me in this case!

Thanks,

Atholl

Excel Facts

Lock one reference in a formula
Need 1 part of a formula to always point to the same range? use $ signs: $V$2:$Z$99 will always point to V2:Z99, even after copying
Take a look at the Tools | Goal Seek... menu command, and the Excel Help topic for "Ways to forecast values with what-if analysis (Goal Seek and Solver)".

Thanks for the reply. I've tried both Goal Seek and Solver, and it's solver which works best for me, but is there any way I can automate (or semi automate, at least) this task?
