I have a spreadsheet with several entries/rows on the same date, 10/10/24, for example. I'd like all rows on that date to be colored blue. Then I want the next rows on a subsequent date, to be yellow. The next three or more rows of the date following that should revert to blue, and all the rows with the date after that to go back to yellow and follow that alternating pattern of blue to yellow for the full length of the sheet. You'd have, say, three blue rows followed by three or more yellow rows followed by several blue rows followed by several yellow rows. Is that possible through, maybe, the conditional formatting feature or by yet some other approach? A simple "no" will do, but if the answer is yes then please tell me how to do it. I'd be most appreciative. I don't use Excel very often, so it's just not an issue I've ever previously dealt with.

Lock one reference in a formula
Need 1 part of a formula to always point to the same range? use $ signs: $V$2:$Z$99 will always point to V2:Z99, even after copying
Welcome to the Board!

Questions like this often make a lot more sense when you can show us a sample of your data and expected results, so we can see exactly what the data you are working with looks like and what you want your results to look like. Can you post those?

MrExcel has a tool called “XL2BB” that lets you post samples of your data that will allow us to copy/paste it to our Excel spreadsheets, so we can work with the same copy of data that you are. Instructions on using this tool can be found here: XL2BB Add-in

Note that there is also a "Test Here” forum on this board. This is a place where you can test using this tool (or any other posting techniques that you want to test) before trying to use those tools in your actual posts.

Thanks. What I'm trying to do is obtain my blood pressure in the morning, mid-day, and in the evening before bed. We're trying to get my BP meds pressure adjusted. Color coding by date would help. I'll post the spreadsheet image. I'm on a Mac, and the xl2bb file doesn't seem to install. The screeshot I created on my computer was too large to upload.

No, but that certainly looks like a good idea.

So I booted Parallels and then Excel in Windows. It looks very different. I did manage to get the XL2BB installed, and I clicked on it. It sent me back to this forum. Now I'm trying to get my spreadsheet image uploaded (or whatever the XL2BB is) and can't seem to figure out that part of it.

It looks like you successfully managed to post your image up in post #7, though I do not see any color coding.
I would really like to see what you expect your output to look like, so we can get a full picture of how this should be working.

I would like the color coding to resemble something like the image below: all readings on a particular date being the same color followed by another color for a subsequent date. It will make it easier to see how the readings vary throughtout the day and determine whether, for example, the readings are consistently lower at the start, middle, or end of the day.

Sorry for my delayed response.
