Column width shrinks

A problem I have every now and then is that I save a file and re-open it, only to find that the column widths have changed (eg from 8.43 to 7.1). I change them back and save the file, but they have shrunk again when I re-open.

Can anybody give me advice on this?

Kieran, welcome to the board. I don't know what causes this, but, this question has been asked in the past a few times, so, maybe they got an answer.
