I have a combo box which is linked to let's say cell A1.
In the same sheet a have data that represent data range in combo box.
I want to protect the sheet but allow using combo box and some ranges.
When I unprotect ranges from which is data linked to combo box, unprotect linked cell A1 and other cells that i need for input data I always get the same message that the sheet is protected.
Combo box is linked to A1 and based on the cell A1 in one cell I have vlookup function to remeber A1 and find certain value from specific range.
When protected I can choose from the combo box but values in the cell where is Vlookup doesn't change.

I complicated it a bit but I hope You understood it!

Excel Facts

Why does 9 mean SUM in SUBTOTAL?
It is because Sum is the 9th alphabetically in Average, Count, CountA, Max, Min, Product, StDev.S, StDev.P, Sum, VAR.S, VAR.P.

Try unlocking A1 (select A1 Format>cells on Protection tab untick Locked) - if A1 is changing and the vlookup is not updating, have you got the calculation set to manual?

To check, press F9, if the formula updates goto Tools>Options on Calculation tab select Automatic.
