I'm stuck, and am sure I will feel silly should someone offer a solution: I inherited a spreadsheet. Cell A1 contains the numerical value 7.5. Cell B1 contains the text "Hp". I tried to concatenate cells A1 and B1, and with this spreadsheet, get #value! as the concatenated result (within C1). All cells A1,B1,and C1 are formatted as "general". If I open a new workbook and repeat this, it works perfectly (result is 7.5Hp). Within the inherited spreadsheet, I have tried CONCATENATE(TEXT(A1,"0"),B1) which works, but I prefer to not have to stick with this method of defining cell A1 as text. Thank you so much for helping !!

Excel Facts

Which came first: VisiCalc or Lotus 1-2-3?
Dan Bricklin and Bob Frankston debuted VisiCalc in 1979 as a Visible Calculator. Lotus 1-2-3 debuted in the early 1980's, from Mitch Kapor.

Can you send me your spreadsheet? Concatenating cells, using your example, works fine for me. It would help to actually see the spreadsheet to troubleshoot the problem.
