I have a list of numbers in column e that I would like to conditionally format to change a cell fill color to red if the number within the cell is equal to the number in the cell above it.

ex.
E
1 718
2 718
3 100
4 603
5 568
6 547
7 895
8 895
9 895

The cells for E2, E8, and E9 would turn red because they match the cell above, but they others stay white. I am using excel 2007 which is new to me. So any detail is appreciated.

Excel Facts

Format cells as currency
Select range and press Ctrl+Shift+4 to format cells as currency. (Shift 4 is the $ sign).
Hi,

Go to cell E2 and on the home tab click on Conditional formatting, Highlight cells rules, then Equal to.

Click on cell E1 and this will populate the equal to pop up menu with =$E$1, you need to ammend this by use of the delete/backspace key and clicking in the pop up to remove both of the $ signs to leave just =E1, you cannot use the cursors for this either:(

Once you have =E1 populated, and the fill colour selcted hit OK.

CLick on cell E2 and double click on the format painter tool on the Home tab, Click on cell E3 and drag it dwn to the botom of your selection.

Job done.
