Conditional Formatting Icon Sets

As you will be no doubt aware I am not very good with Conditional Formatting.
I have looked but I can find this answer, I really do apologize if its there.

All I want to do is have a green light appear next to the text in a cell if that cell has any kind of text/number in it.
If the cell has nothing in it then the cell should remain blank, I only want the green light when the cell is populated.
Can anyone give me a quick explanation of how to achieve this please.

Hi Kevin, you can do it this way: If you want cell D1 turns green when the cell C1 has something inside it, select cell D1 and type in conditional formatting formula: =C1<>"" and set the color of background as green.

yes that's kind of it but I want the traffic light icon to appear in the cell as opposed to the cell turning green.
