Hopefully straightforward question: How would I highlight any cell that occurs in September? I tried =DATE(*,9,*) and any cell that contains 9/* neither work. Any help is appreciated.

Select all the cells you want the CF to apply to. For example A1:A100.
Use a formula to set the condition. Formula is:
=MONTH(A1) =9

This isn't working, maybe its my date formatting. My dates start on F2 (1-Sep) and continue through the 2 row (G2=2-Sep, H2=3-Sep, etc...)

Are they dates or text? If dates, select them all with your mouse and use this CF formula:
=MONTH(F$2)=9
