Countif with matching dates

Hello All - How do I write an equation (preferably in gsheets) that says if Col A = Category 1 and Column B is in the same month and year as the rows across the top then count column B? Thanks so much

What do you mean count column B?

This will flag matches: =IF(AND($A2="CATEGORY 1",MONTH($B2)=MONTH(C$1),YEAR($B2)=YEAR(C$1)),"MATCH","")
