I want to count the number of non-blank cells in a column, the only issue is that if the adjecent columns are also non-blank then I want the contribution to be a fraction depending on the number of columns. I can use counta to give the total number on non-blank cells in a row that can then be used as a fraction but am not sure how to write a formula for the columns - I think I need an array formula.

An example I what I mean is below:

................col 1 ........ col 2.......... col 3 ........total
..................x ...............................................1
..................x ...............................................1
..................x ................x .............................2
....................................x ................x ...........2
..................x ................x................ x ...........3
total ........2.833 .........2.333 ..........0.833

So col 1 is calculated by summing 1+1+0.5+0.333=2.833

Hope you can help. Thanks in advance.

Press Ctrl+` to show all formulas. Press it again to toggle back to numbers. The grave accent is often under the tilde on US keyboards.
