Searched the forum first but could not find my answer.

Need to count the same occurence of text in a column.
Col A Col B
Jacks
Jacks
Jacks 3
Pete
Pete 2
Sally
Sally
Sally 3

Col B would be the answer expected or below would work as well.

Col C Col D
Jacks 3
Pete 2
Sally 3

The goal is to get a count of the same text in a column with 30000 rows of data.

Thanks

Hello DrScud, welcome to the board!

Take a look at the COUNTIF function.

Syntax:
COUNTIF(range,criteria)

An example might look like ...

=COUNTIF(A2:A30000,C2)

Where C2 housed "Jacks".

Thanks,

I used the Advanced Filter to copy the unique entries into a blank column and then used the countif to search the range and count if matched.
