Creating a sliding scale

I want to create a sliding scale that shows values between 250,000,000 and 1,500,000,000.

Does Excel (2007) have a function that allows me to create this as a standalone (ie without having to refer to a table elsewhere with these values), and graphically represent it?

I guess the easy way is a drop down menu with the values (at a fixed interval) and I just select.

But i want to get fancy with a GUI that looks like a volume control, and i can slide up and down between the two extreme values.

Thanks for any insights...

Excel Facts

Why are there 1,048,576 rows in Excel?
The Excel team increased the size of the grid in 2007. There are 2^20 rows and 2^14 columns for a total of 17 billion cells.
You should have a scroll bar control available to insert onto sheet or a userform. They will handle those values.

This would typically be done using a scroll bar but they can't handle numbers that big.

There are 2 types of scroll bars available. A Forms scroll bar and an ActiveX scroll bar. The range limits are 0 to 30,000 for the Forms scroll bar and 0 to 32,767 for the ActiveX scroll bar.

Typically, you'd scroll through the control and the numeric value will appear in a cell. You might be able to use a multiplier on this cell to get the scale of number you want.

Thanks Biff.
Could you walk me through the multiplier to get the scale I'm seeking?

Well, it depends on how you want to increment the value.

The default increment is 1 but your scale is way to big to increment by 1.

Can you give us some details as to what you want to do with this?

So what I want to do is create a scale with min value 250M and upper limit of 2B.
I was playing around with it and found a crude workaround: I linked the scroll to a cell in which to display the values, then placed the scroll ON TOP of that cell to hide it, and in an adjacent cell, simply did a multiply function (x1M).

The scroll reads between 250 and 2000, but the adjacent cell displays 250M and 2000M.

Your thoughts on this?

OK, that's pretty much the steps you have to take to get it to work with those big numbers.

The hard part was coming up with an appropriate multiplier that still allows you to use all the numbers in the range that you need.

It sounds you have it figured out.
