Can't see the wood for the trees on this......

I am trying to calculate the hire period for standing pieces of kit.
Col A is Erect Date
Col B is Dismantle Date
Col C is Off Hire date

Col D is calculating the number of hire days =IF(A2="",0,IF(C2="",DATE-A2,C2-A2)) this works when I have dates allocated within Col A and C but when Col A date is inserted and is yet to be dismantled it returns a negative in number form.

Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Excel Facts

Which lookup functions find a value equal or greater than the lookup value?
MATCH uses -1 to find larger value (lookup table must be sorted ZA). XLOOKUP uses 1 to find values greater and does not need to be sorted.

DO you have a formula in C2, 'cos I dont see any formula linking erect date and dismantle date i.e column A and column B

In what cell is the negative value returned? and whats the formula in that cell

Dates are entered manually as there is no set time frame. Negative value is returned in Col D if no dismantle date has occurred.
