Date formatting wonky

I have used excel for years. I understand how to format dates. However, lately, after I tell the cell to format it as a date, and then type in a date, it inserts some random date (not the numbers at all that I entered).

Anyone else deal with this?

Excel Facts

Remove leading & trailing spaces
Save as CSV to remove all leading and trailing spaces. It is faster than using TRIM().
also when I type in 02/02/13 the general number is 41307 - what does that date show for you in general formatting.

It shows as 41307 down here in Gloucester.

(Do you need to define 'wonky' for our transatlantic friends?)

41307

Martin,

Your not having the problem are you? or are you?

The format general number question was directed at Joyce

just FYI, excel reads ALL dates as a 5-digit number, representing the number of days from 1/1/1900. so 41307 is acutally a date that is 41307 days from 1/1/1900...or 2/2/2013

All you need to do is format it as a date and you should be fine
