I have two Excel Sheets. 1st Sheet (Sheet-1) has a formula, which points to Sheet-2.

Now, when I insert a columns in Sheet-2 before the place where the first sheet is pointing to, the formula in sheet-1 gets updated to take up the new column from sheet-1.

I don't want this to happen. I want that the Formula in Sheet-1 should always point to the Rows/Columns I have selected and does not change when I insert Rows/Columns in Sheet-2.

Is there any way to do that. I tried with $, but it is not working.

How to total the visible cells?
From the first blank cell below a filtered data set, press Alt+=. Instead of SUM, you will get SUBTOTAL(9,)
Hi, and welcome to the forum.

To do this you can use the INDIRECT function. E.g. to always point at cell B1 use =INDIRECT("B1").
