Does anyone know an easy way of doing this? - I have always had to do it by copying across from powerpoint or Word but presume there must be an easier way.

Save Often
If you start asking yourself if now is a good time to save your Excel workbook, the answer is Yes
In the forms toolbar is a check box which is an easy way to add those. Not sure about the crosses.
