Is this possible? I would like to have a drop down list in a cell, where a user can select from the top 20 names. However, if their name does not appear in the list, I would like them to be able to enter the name in the same cell, rather than have a separate column for 'other, please specify' entries.

Any ideas?

Hi Dave,

If your in-cell dropdown is implemented via cell List Validation (using Data > Validation), it can be made to allow entries other than those listed in the dropdown by selecting the Error Alert tab of the Data Validation form and unchecking the "show error alert after invalid data is entered" checkbox.

Similiar capabilities exist with comboboxes, but for now I'm assuming you are using data validation.

Keep Excelling.
