Droping remainders

How can you drop the remainder of a cell over a certain number, say 40, to another cell? Thanks for all your help guys!

Try

=MAX(A1-40,0)

mod(a1,40)

...though mod() doesn't quite fit with the over forty element (hence barry's use of max() )
