Hello,

I watched a ton of your videos on the Dynamic Chart series and I feel like I got a decent grasp on the different things you can do, but now I can't figure out what choice makes the most sense to do my work project. I'm using Office 2010 on Windows 7 64 bit

My boss has a massive spreadsheet that tracks certain data points. Each month, she has people who email her new data points for that month. She then goes in and creates a new month on the Data tab and fills in the info from each of the employees (there are 9 of them). This part is easy. The part that is tough is that she has a number of different graphs associated with the table.

Right now, she pulls the info from the Data tab and compiles the monthly totals on a Totals tab (the original worksheet is divided up in sections by the employee, so all of history for an employee is listed, then the next employee, etc.) From that data, she manually goes to her charts and tells it where to find the new data to supply the chart, as almost all of the charts are supposed to show the most recent 12 months.

Ideally, the charts would dynamically update as the information for each employee is entered on the Data tab. If it's possible to have it use the date on the calendar, that's great, but if not we are ok with entering a date manually. What's the best way to tackle this process? (keep in mind I'm still learning all this advanced excel stuff by watching your videos)

Excel Facts

What do {} around a formula in the formula bar mean?
{Formula} means the formula was entered using Ctrl+Shift+Enter signifying an old-style array formula.
You will most likely need to use an Offset Formula that counts the data to be graphed.

Several different options based on what you need.

For the chart - Is it a range of data from some point in the past and we keep adding new points that need to go into the chart OR is it a rolling period, like last 12 months.

If it is static, than you can insert a table and graph the table data and it becomes dynamic.
or you can use an offset formula.
This is the offset link, but you can easily find the dynamic tutorial using a table. http://www.exceldashboardtemplates.com/?p=688
