Eliminating Duplication?

My data column:

John
John
Smith
Smith
Mary
Mary
Mary

and so on (runs into several hundred rows)

I want to reduce this column so that I avoid duplicates. Therefore just one entry for John, Smith etc.

Any suggestions?

Excel Facts

Select a hidden cell
Somehide hide payroll data in column G? Press F5. Type G1. Enter. Look in formula bar while you arrow down through G.
Check out the Unique Records Only option under Advanced Filters (Data | Filter | Advanced Filter...)
