I have 4 workbooks named the following: -

Parts.xls
Model.xls
Warranty.xls
Report.xls

Is there a way to embed the first 3 workbooks into the Report.xls workbook? so that I have 1 workbook and so that I can run formulas on the Parts.xls, Models.xls and Warranty.xls. :)

If I can embedd the first three books into the Report.xls book, what would the formula statement look like, would it be similar to what I currently do:

(example) =IF('u:\excel\[Parts.xls]Service'!$A$2:$A$1000=B2,1,0)

Excel Facts

What do {} around a formula in the formula bar mean?
{Formula} means the formula was entered using Ctrl+Shift+Enter signifying an old-style array formula.
1. Why embed? If you want to combine the sheets, just copy all the sheets into the one file.

2. If you don't want to combine, there is still no need to embed, you can write formulas that reference external Excel files.

To see how referencing external files works, do this:
(To make conceptualization easy, lets say we are working with report.xls and parts.xls
1. Open both workbooks.
2. In report.xls type an equals sign ("=") to start a formula
3. Choose the parts.xls and select a cell or range of cells.
4. Press Enter
5. Look at the formula Excel created. That will show you the syntax you need.

3. You cannot reference embedded spreadsheets.
