Excel 2010 on Windows 7- VBA Won't Compile

I have built-in VBA functions that no longer work. I get an error message:
Compile error: Can't find project or library.

I have no idea how to solve this. The pop-up help is not helpful. Suggestions!

Some examples of Functions that won't compile:

string$()
Left()

HELP!!!!!!!!!!!
 

Excel Facts

Can you AutoAverage in Excel?
There is a drop-down next to the AutoSum symbol. Open the drop-down to choose AVERAGE, COUNT, MAX, or MIN
In the VBE, Tools > References. Among those ticked (which are all at the top), untick any that start with MISSING
