Convert text numbers to real numbers
Select a column containing text numbers. Press Alt+D E F to quickly convert text to numbers. Faster than "Convert to Number"

If you just want to enter text, either don't include the = sign, or use ="Emma" for example.

If that's what you need to appear in the cell you can:
1. Format the cell as Text and then enter =text, or
2. Enter '=text, or
3. Enter ="=text"

2 is probably simplest. :)

But I need text with =text
Then change the Cell Format to Text before you enter that text into the cell. Alternately, you can type an apostrophe character first, then type your text... so, you entry would be '=text the apostrophe will not show up in the cell's display.
