excel calculating

every time i enter something in excel it takes several seconds (10-15) to go to next cell. it says calculating processors. even when there is no linked or depended cell. just entering 1 in a new work sheet, it takes time , and whats there to calculate in that? it goes away when i select manual calculation. but i like to keep automatic calculation. any other way ? pleae help

Dan Bricklin and Bob Frankston debuted VisiCalc in 1979 as a Visible Calculator. Lotus 1-2-3 debuted in the early 1980's, from Mitch Kapor.
Most likely cause is that you have a workbook open that has volatile formulas (eg OFFSET or INDIRECT) in it.
