Hi All,

While opening an Excel 2007 (xlsm) file which I have been working with for a week now, I received a message as

"Excel found unreadable content.... do you want to recover"

I clicked Yes to recover

then the following message appeared

"Excel was able to open the file by repairing or removing the unreadable content"

Here is the recovery log

HTML:
  <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" standalone="yes" ?>
- <recoveryLog xmlns="http://schemas.openxmlformats.org/spreadsheetml/2006/main">
  <logFileName>error001760_01.xml</logFileName>
  <summary>Errors were detected in file 'C:\Documents and Settings\Fowmy\Desktop\Daily Sales Dashboard.xlsm'</summary>
- <removedRecords summary="Following is a list of removed records:">
  <removedRecord>Removed Records: Shared formula from /xl/worksheets/sheet7.xml part</removedRecord>
  <removedRecord>Removed Records: Formula from /xl/calcChain.xml part (Calculation properties)</removedRecord>
  </removedRecords>
  </recoveryLog>

What I am interested is what excel removed and in which cell?
Could someone give me clue as to how I can analyse the file to get there?

Excel Facts

When did Power Query debut in Excel?
Although it was an add-in in Excel 2010 & Excel 2013, Power Query became a part of Excel in 2016, in Data, Get & Transform Data.
Well, tackling the most obvious first.... do you have any sheets named Sheet7 and calcChain?

Hi,

Thanks for your reply.

I do not have any sheets in the name of Sheet7 or calcChain

I checked in the VBA Editor, there I found Sheet7(Sales) i.e sales sheet is named sheet7 as an object in VBE.

Hi

Do you remember what information was there in the original workbook in the worksheet Sales?

Have you used any VBA to populate cells with formulae? There seems to be a new method in Excel 2007 called CreateSharedFormula. Maybe something related to this, since the log file says shared formula removed.

I checked the Sales sheet with an older version of the file and there was not change. Also, the sheet contains only plan data and no VBA used to populate anything.

I googles a bit ans found something interesting.

Added the .zip extension @ the end of the file and opened in xml mode opened the xml component "sheet7" and compared it with an older version, unfortunately both were identical

I wonder why it said changes in Sheet7 then!

I can't think of anything else at the moment. Will post back if I come across anything.
