Recent issue with Excel, in Windows 7 on an HP laptop purchased late 2011 (so it is compatible with and has appropriate resources to operate Windows 7. Excel, will somewhat randomly, indicate that the Control key is being help down, and function as if you are holding down the Control key (E.g. selecting different cells as you click on them). Annoying and the only apparent way to "cure" this is to re-boot. Any comments or advice? I have tried the Excel "self-repair" option, but this does not seem to help.

Excel Facts

What is =ROMAN(40) in Excel?
The Roman numeral for 40 is XL. Bill "MrExcel" Jelen's 40th book was called MrExcel XL.
maybe you have a macro that has caused this.. if this is the case, can you show me the code? if not, do you think of other ideas that has caused this?

No, I really don't. I am not sure how to show you the code, the error message is something like "MS Excel has detected that you are holding down the control key" which is not being done. I would normally sort of think maybe a sticky key, but it is very erratic, and basically a new computer.

I noticed in a different post that sometimes the f8 key can cause some "ghosting" I am not familiar with this, I gather it has to do with the extend feature in Excel, which I am also not familiar with.

No, your post is the only recent response I have had. It still an issue, all the more annoying because it is more or less random.
