Excel to access

I'm trying to import data from several excel sheets into access. The problem is that the column headings in the excel files are identifiers, and should themselves be included in a field.

i.e: I have an excel table like this
1 2 3
a x x x
b x x x
c x x x

but want it in access like this:
a 1 x
a 2 x
a 3 x
b 1 x
b 2 x
etc....

Any quick way to do this without a lot of manual copying/pasting etc? It's quite a bit of data over many sheets....

Thanks,
- Rich
