expressing "a number" in excel formula

in a formula you can tell excel "if blank" by using if(c5="",)

but how do i tell excel if c5 has a number (any number) then...?

i want the formula to skip the cell (or just leave it blank) if c5 actually has a number $ xx.xx and to execute the formula if c5 is blank.

You can probably use:

=IF(ISNUMBER(A1),...

What have you tried? Have you tried:

=IF(C5>0,"",some_formula_stuff)

or, even better:

=IF(ISNUMBER(C5),"",some_formula_stuff)
