format painter copying cell content as well as format

I have Win 11 and Office 365. So far I am not impressed with 11... but that's for another forum

I am trying to copy the formatting from one cell to another or many but when I click the Format Painter brush and click the cell(s) I want to format, the original cell's content is copied along with the format. This is complete surprise as this was not the case in my Win 10 machine.

Anyone have any ideas why, or is there a place I can select what happens with the painter?

Thanks

Secret function! Use =DATEDIF(A2,B2,"Y")&" years"&=DATEDIF(A2,B2,"YM")&" months"&=DATEDIF(A2,B2,"MD")&" days"
Upgrading to W11 should not have caused this but I have seen stranger things happen.

As a workaround have you tried Copy, Paste Format? It should do the same thing as Format Painter.

Thanks for the reply
I hadn't considered that, but it doesn't work either. Content is copied over
