CONDITIONAL FORMATTING

Has been a long time since I last used Conditional Formatting. Currently on Excel 365

Set up rules for one cell, then used Paste-Special/Formats to copy to about 200 cells in the same column. Went into Manage Rules for the last cell just to check OK, and surprised to see the line refences were for the original cell even though no $ reference. Checked other cells and all the same.

Same result for Format Painter, Paste-Special/Formats, or plain Copy & Paste.

Strangely, if copied to an individual cell, then it shows the correct line reference for that cell.

After fighting with this for some hours, discovered even though the individual cells showed the line reference for the copied cell, they all worked as they should.

So, appears as though when copying formatting to multiple cells they all show the line reference of the "donor" cell, but actually work as they should.

My memory of previous occasions when I did this on earlier versions of Excel is that each pasted cell had its own line reference. Is my memory playing tricks?

Excel Facts

Last used cell?
Press Ctrl+End to move to what Excel thinks is the last used cell.
Conditional formatting can be confusing at times, and I am no pro at it.
I think you are right about earlier versions needing their own reference.
now you create your rule as it applies to cell 1 and then say it applies to cell range 2-?? makes it easier I think.
