formula to locate data from a grid

spacing gets screwed up when I submit, so you'll have to visualize...

across the top is "Truck" "dog" and "bike", down column A is colors, and in the middle of the grid is number values.


if this was my spreadsheet, I'd like to be able to wite a formula that would return "4" if given "orange" and "dog".

is this possible?

I was thinking an Hlookup combined with some function that I don't know about yet that could locate "orange" and return the value of which row it's on.

any ideas?

Assuming that Truck, Dog, and Bike is in B1:D1 and colors are in A2:A10...

=INDEX($B$2:$D$10,MATCH(Color,$A$2:$A$10,0),MATCH(Entity,$B$1:$D$1,0))

BTW, when you pose such questions, try to be specific about ranges involved.
