Front_End_File Size

I've split my database, linking to a BE file.
In my FE file under Access Options Currnet database I have checked
Compact on Close.
So my when i go to Explorer and see the FE File.. Why is it under size showing 60 Meg? Several months ago, the last time I looked it was
1,480 KB...

What version of Access and what service pack level? Also does everyone have a COPY of the frontend on THEIR machine (not using a shared one on a server)?
