General Database Design Question

Hi guys,

I am writing documentation for my university on Microsoft Access. My sample database is meant to simulate a university administration database, with tables for students, courses, grades, dorm, etc. However, I need to demonstrate how to use a Crosstab (summary) query, and I cannot think of how to use one in such a database. Does anyone have any ideas? In what case would you use a Crosstab query in an educational/university database -- to calculate what, to summarize which data, etc.?

Thanks so much for your help!

Excel Facts

Pivot Table Drill Down
Double-click any number in a pivot table to create a new report showing all detail rows that make up that number
Could be things like:

Number of Students by Course Number
Number of Students by Department
Number of Students by StudentYear {Freshman, Sophomore, Junior, Senior}
Number of Courses by Semester
Number of Courses by Department
Students by Dorm
Students by Grade

Crosstabs are awesome - you take your good clean normalized data that your managers thinks is *abnormal* and turn it into columnarized data that they think looks *normal* :biggrin:
