was not sure where to put a general discussion , excel forum seems the only logical place

I have just seen a tutorial on how to sort by cell fill colour,
i thought this was only possible by VBA , and seen that as the response on quite a few threads , that it cannot be done

in fact often question asked is - does the sheet have conditional formatting , and then use those rules

but looking at the tutorials and google searches - this appears to have been available for some time 2007

i have clearly missed something

I just wondered what version was this introduced , tried google and not got a decent reply - no point using AI - as that has been wrong 80% of the time whenever i used chatgpt !

Excel Facts

Why are there 1,048,576 rows in Excel?
The Excel team increased the size of the grid in 2007. There are 2^20 rows and 2^14 columns for a total of 17 billion cells.
As best I recall it was introduced in 2007, at the same time as filtering by colour.
