Help in using Excel formula to capture positive or negative values to trigger another formula

Hello Guys,
Am kinda new to the forum and would appreciate any help in sorting out my fix. I want to have this simple formula: (A1 + B1)-C1 (+/-)D1 = E1 work in excel. Assuming value in D can either be a positive or negative figure. My challenge is in creating a formula that can accept either positive or negative numbers for the cell D1.
