I run a small American football pool with 23 members. Each person makes their picks each week, and puts $1 in the pot for each loss. At the end of the season, we collect the money and divide it up, with 33.34% going towards a Super Bowl party for all players. The remaining 66.66% is divided up as follows:

1st place - 50%
2nd place - 30%
3rd place - 10%
4th place - 6%
5th place - 4%

In the event of a tie, we are using the golf rules, i.e. if two people tie for second, the second and third place amounts are combined and split in half, thus eliminating the 3rd place payout.

What I am looking for is some way to show what each payout will be after each weeks games.

You can see the html version of my spreadsheet at www.leftcoastsiesta.com/fb09.htm

If you need any more information, let me know. I appreciate any help that I can get. Thanks!

Wow! That was fast. Thank you.
However, there was a small misunderstanding of my original plan. If the 7th place person has 86 losses, then that becomes the zero point for the remaining payouts. For example if the accumulated loss pot total is 1840, then his 86 dollar loss would come off the top of that. The remaining 1754 would then be divided up using the percentages listed in my previous post. The 86 dollars would not be added to each person.
so i guess basically what i am looking for is a way to keep the 7th place constantly updated, to allow the other payouts to be correctly adjusted every week.
I can see the answer in your response, but removing the unneeded parts is beyond me, and I dont want to screw everything up.

again, thank you for all of your help. you are amazing!

Excel Facts

Why are there 1,048,576 rows in Excel?
The Excel team increased the size of the grid in 2007. There are 2^20 rows and 2^14 columns for a total of 17 billion cells.
Hi

Sorry for not getting back to you sooner. Rather than making assumptions, I need a couple of points clarified.

If there are multiple last placed winners in 7th position, I would assume all 7th placed people get their money back. Is that correct?

Secondly, if there is no 7th place, but lets say two people in 6th place, does the minimum payout apply to the 2 people in 6th? Or is there no minimum given there is no-one in 7th place?
