I'm not an excel expert, just a mere daily user, but i decided to take the next step and learn how to do more with my data.

I've searched a lot before deciding to register and post here, but i didn't really find the information suitable for me.

Here's what i want to accomplish:

I want to be able to highlight a number cell if it remains empty after a certain text is entered in the ones from left and/or right.

So:

In the E and G column i have some text info, in F there should be a number, but only if a certain text is entered in E and/or G.

Sometimes, i forget to enter that number and i want that cell to highlight.

Missed to paste the formula, here it is :-

=AND(ISERROR(SEARCH("verificare",$G1)),ISERROR(SEARCH("rond",$G1)))

Excel Facts

Convert text numbers to real numbers
Select a column containing text numbers. Press Alt+D E F to quickly convert text to numbers. Faster than "Convert to Number"
I seriously don't know what's wrong... every formula i try to enter, i get the same frickin' error: "we found a error with the formula..."

Here's the steps take to enter the formula provided:

1. Click on cell F1
2. Conditional Formatting (from the Home pane)
3. New Rule > Use a formula to determine... (last one)
4. Paste the formula > select the format color > OK

Every time, every formula, same error!

I followed the same steps but did not found any error.

Check the pasted formula for any spaces.

No spaces, no nothing, all i do is change G1 to G3, because that's the first row with the text input.

Same error every time. Do the cells need to be a specific type, like text, number, date...?

Are you changing both G1 to G3 ?
No specific formatting required.

If still facing issue, can you upload the file and share the link here. Thanks.

I can't really upload my file because it contains very sensitive information and i don't want it all over the net.

But same thing happened on a new blank excel, filled the rows with some text and tried the formula, same error.

I use Office 2013 Pro Plus, if this makes any difference....

Not sure but I tested that formula before giving to you

Can you upload & send the link for that new blank excel for me to check ?

There is no conditional formatting formula present in that file, can you apply and confirm back ? Thanks.
