How can I Copy/Paste into many cells?

I have took data from websites and had no trouble in the past. For example, using baseball teams and their standings....I highlight everything, and then go to excel and hit paste and my result is that all the team names are in A, all team wins are in B, losses are in C, etc.

But this morning I tried to do this and found that all the data was in one long line starting from A. Cell's in B were blank, same with C, etc. Can anyone help me to correct this problem? I tried to use a Paste Special, selecting Text, but that did not work.
