Hello,

I have a worksheet that gets updated from a MySQL database. I would like to do some analysis on this data, but when I update the data from the database, my references to the data get changed.

For example, let's say my database data is on sheet2 and I want sheet1, cell C3 to poin to sheet2, cell C3 no matter what happens on sheet2. If I update the database or do sorting on sheet2, I want the reference to always point to C3.

Excel Facts

What does custom number format of ;;; mean?
Three semi-colons will hide the value in the cell. Although most people use white font instead.
I found one method that works:

If I make an array that is a copy of the original data, then I can perform calculations on the array and the references don't change. I can delete (using Delete key, not Delete from Edit menu), update, or sort the original data and the calculations remain intact.
