How to show text in pivot table using MAC version of excel?

I'm trying to set up a pivot table to show the text in a field as the "values" in a pivot table on a MAC. This can be done via DEX and/or conditional formatting in a PC, but not on MAC (conditional formatting obviously can, but my values are the names of classes and there are too many to do conditional formatting.

Does anyone know a solution to this issue? Or can anyone point me in the correct direction?

Specifically I have a file showing course offerings at a school by date and time. I want to transfer this to a calendar, and I can ALMOST do it using a pivot table and dates... except that when it comes to putting in the values, I can put in the daydate and can also put in the course title, but the course title is text so it comes out as a sum.

Any workarounds?

Thanks

How to change case of text in Excel?
Use =UPPER() for upper case, =LOWER() for lower case, and =PROPER() for proper case. PROPER won't capitalize second c in Mccartney
