How to stop every pivot updating when I edit one

I have a workbook with maybe 30 pivots. If I add a new field to one pivot it tries to refresh the whole workbook not just the one I'm editing. Means I have to hit esc many times to stop it which takes ages. Can this behaviour be prevented?

Thanks

Mike
