How to stop .xlk creation?

I am dumping data from Access to Excel using the Access export. The resulting .xlsx creates a .xlk file every time I open it. None of my other files ever do this. I have gone into settings and turned off autosave, but it made no difference. Am I in the wrong place to do this?
