Hi

This is probably very simple for you experts out there but I'm stuck!

In one cell I will have a number, if under 1300 I want the cell beside it to say LOW, if over 1300 but under 1800 I want it to say MEDIUM and if over 1800 I want it to say HIGH. Sometimes it will be blank so if I can avoid any error warnings when that happens it would be ideal.

If you can give me the relevant IF formula (I believe) it would be most appreciated!

Thanks

TT

Excel Facts

How to fill five years of quarters?
Type 1Q-2023 in a cell. Grab the fill handle and drag down or right. After 4Q-2023, Excel will jump to 1Q-2024. Dash can be any character.
Welcome to the board..

Will the number ever be negative?
If Not, try

=LOOKUP(A1,{0,1300,1800},{"LOW","MEDIUM","HIGH"})

Blanks will be considered 0, therefore Less than 1300, therefore resulting in LOW.

Hope that helps.

Try

=IF(A1="","",LOOKUP(A1,{0,1301,1801},"LOW","MEDIUM","HIGH"}))

L9 copied down, but you don't define what you want if the value is exactly 1300 or exactly 1800.

Guys thank you very much! I'm amazed at the speed of response!

Jonmo1, that worked well so thank you!

VoG, it came back that I had too many arguements, but thanks for your help.

p45cal - that also worked really well as zeros are discounted so I'll go with that solution! Many thanks.

Thanks for your help everyone - problem solved!

Your levels are not well defined:

under 1300
over 1300
under 1800
over 1800

What if the value IS 1300 or 1800?

Are negative numbers possible? Is 0 a valid entry?
