I need to place dashes in a cell without Excel trying to calculate

Excel Facts

Formula for Yesterday
Name Manager, New Name. Yesterday =TODAY()-1. OK. Then, use =YESTERDAY in any cell. Tomorrow could be =TODAY()+1.

Not sure the issue. I can place <------- into a cell and if I place --------- into a cell it appends it with '-----.

Try placing a single quote [ ' ] in front of the text. That will force excel to see it as text.
