A1 and B1 contain the values "".
Both A1 and B1 can have values in them but there are times when A1 or B1 will want to remain as "".

In cell C1 I would like to add the values from A1 and B1 but because one or both of these values are "" I get the #VALUE! error.
Is there a way that I can get around this.

i.e.
If A1 = "" and B1 <> "" then C1 = B1
If A1 <> "" and B1 = "" then C1 = A1
If A1 <> "" and B1 <> "" then C1 = A1+B1

Excel Facts

When did Power Query debut in Excel?
Although it was an add-in in Excel 2010 & Excel 2013, Power Query became a part of Excel in 2016, in Data, Get & Transform Data.

In C1 enter one of:

=SUM(A1:B1)

=IF(COUNTBLANK(A1:B1),"",SUM(A1:B1))
