Trying to apply some conditional formatting to M6:M20. What am I doing wrong here? The cell values are dates

This sample formula works in cells
=IF($M6>(VLOOKUP($G6,Table1,5,0)),"Pass","Fail")

Thought I could use this to turn the font red if the date in M6 (format mmm-yy) is greater than the corresponding date in Table1 Column 5 (date format mm/dd/yyyy)

=$M6>(VLOOKUP($G6,Table1,5,0))

How to show all formulas in Excel?
Press Ctrl+` to show all formulas. Press it again to toggle back to numbers. The grave accent is often under the tilde on US keyboards.
Thanks Jason, your previous suggestion didn't work, but the last one did, perfectly. Thank you!!

For what it's worth, prior to seeing your last suggestion, I did get it working with the following formula, but I like yours much better.

=NOT(OR(VLOOKUP($G6,Sheet1!$B$4:$F$19,5,0)>M6,VLOOKUP($G6,Sheet1!$B$4:$F$19,5,0)=""))
