I currently have an application that uses the crystal reports ActiveX plugin for displaying database query results. When I export to Excel, the spreadsheet has blank lines every other line. Can I avoid that? Is there a function that would seek and destroy empty rows?

Back into an answer in Excel
Use Data, What-If Analysis, Goal Seek to find the correct input cell value to reach a desired result
Well I usually insert a column before A, and put numbers there,

after I sort by the column that contains the empty lines, delete them
Resort by A
delete A

hope this helps
