The formula is column F is <TABLE style="WIDTH: 198pt; BORDER-COLLAPSE: collapse" border=0 cellSpacing=0 cellPadding=0 width=264><COLGROUP><COL style="WIDTH: 198pt; mso-width-source: userset; mso-width-alt: 4827" width=264><TBODY><TR style="HEIGHT: 15pt" height=20><TD style="BORDER-BOTTOM: #95b3d7 0.5pt solid; BORDER-LEFT: #f0f0f0; WIDTH: 198pt; FONT-FAMILY: Calibri; BACKGROUND: #dce6f1; HEIGHT: 15pt; COLOR: black; FONT-SIZE: 11pt; BORDER-TOP: #95b3d7 0.5pt solid; FONT-WEIGHT: 400; BORDER-RIGHT: #95b3d7 0.5pt solid; TEXT-DECORATION: none; text-underline-style: none; text-line-through: none; mso-pattern: #DCE6F1 none" class=xl65 height=20 width=264>=IF(([@Name]="Greg"),"Brady","Other")</TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>

and it updates automatically.

So, if I type in the name "Klinger" in cell E10, the value if F10 will automatically update to "Other"

My question is - is there a formula I can place in the item column that will increment the row number automatically?

So, if I type in the name "Klinger" in cell E10, the value of F10 will automatically update to "Other" and the value in D10 will automatically update to the number of rows in the table?

(If my data wasn't in a table I'd just add something in E10 like '=e9+1' and in e9 I'd add '=e8+1' etc., but tables are so awesome when I can get them to work!)

Excel Facts

Format cells as date
Select range and press Ctrl+Shift+3 to format cells as date. (Shift 3 is the # sign which sort of looks like a small calendar).
Hi, I'm not an expert when it comes to sheet side formulas but try:
Code:
=IF(E7="","",D6+1)
copy that into the last blank cell, D10 for instance and then copy down as far as you want.

Hi _MorDred_ thanks for your suggestion!

I think that would work if my data was in a free range of cells and not a predefined table. I'd certainly be able to enter that formula in and drag it several rows down.

The catch is that my info is in a predefined table. (when I enter a new row the color automatically changes for example, and also I'd like to use table functions within the table based on field names - like referring to the values in the name column as @name)

I'm trying to place a formula in @item that automatically increments when I populate the @name field (the same way @show gets populated)

If I enter your formula in the @item field it doesn't update automatically when I type in a new name in @name

Do you see what I mean?
