Interesting URL Text Matching Question

I am trying to match a url by using part of the string. For instance, the full url is:

mysite.com/blogs/health/2011/08/11/139561948/my-first-photos-of-vacation.


I am trying to match it by using this:

mysite.com/blogs/health/2011/08/11/139561948/my-first-photos-of-


Is it possible to find the longer version by using the partial text / url ? i.e find all urls that contain the partial string.

Assuming your search term in A1 and your list in Column B:

=ISNUMBER(MATCH(A1&"*",B:B,0))

hmm .. doesn't seem to be working. I am getting a value of "false" when I know there is a definite match. ( All coming up as false).


btw -is this similar to a vlookup? After matching, I will need to pull a value to the immediate right of the matched text - just like a vlookup.

What do you mean? Is there a way to match when there are spaces?

I measn say in A1, you had extra spaces at the end for example, it wouldn't match.
